SolidaRITy: Support the RIT workers trying to unionize!

Watch out, big fish.

Join us for a panel of speakers and discussion on building solidarity with workers at RIT, and their struggle to form a union.

Thursday, March 26, 2009, 7:30pm - 9:00pm, RIT Wallace Library, Idea Factory, RIT

Faced with a shrinking endowment fund and an unsustainable appetite for expansion, RIT is passing the misery onto the workers who make this school function.

Freezing wages during a tuition hike and increasing insurance bills translates into a lower standard of living:

WORKERS DESERVE A LIVING WAGE!
WORKERS DESERVE FULL HEALTH CARE!

The huge expansion RIT has been through in the past few years - new buildings and new programs - create an additional strain on the Facilities Maintenance Services. Faced with a hiring freeze, there is no more help to clean and service those buildings. Employees have seen their workload double, and some have even gotten three times the responsibility that was expected of them as little as one year ago.
Individual employees have very few options when faced with a grievance;
The RIT Ombudsperson, who oversees students, faculty and staff is overworked and far from impartial. Being paid by the college to handle complaints forces the Ombuds office to follow the same dysfunctional procedures offered to all employees. It's like having your defense attorney paid for by the prosecution. Employees are often told, "If you don't like it ... there's the door!"

WORKERS DESERVE RESPECT!
WORKERS DESERVE A VOICE!

The struggle here at RIT is just one fight in the history of class conflict, between those with the wealth and power and the majority of Americans who make up the working class.
This struggle has come to RIT, show your support for the working class:
OUR WORKING CLASS!!

IT'S TIME TO ORGANIZE!!
